A Look At

Our History

Contour was founded in 1985 as a niche specialty glass tempering company of small sizes for the appliance, aquarium and millwork industry.  Over the past 39 years, we have retained our focus while methodically expanding our capabilities. Our company was founded, and has retained the belief, that to produce a good product, you must start with a good company.  We have a high regard for the professional growth of all of our Contour Team because we believe that a company’s products are directly related to the regard the company shows its employees.

Today, Contour serves the appliance, LED lighting fixture, display, and building products markets with high quality tempered glass products.  We call this process of cutting, edging, silk screening, and flat tempering, “glass transformation.”

Our two plants, totaling over 155,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and multiple tempering lines, are located at the Phipps Bend Industrial Park, in Surgoinsville, Tennessee.

Cardinal Equity Partners, LLC, an Indianapolis based, family backed private investment firm is pleased to announce that it has sold its investment in Contour Industries, Inc. d/b/a Contour Glass to a group including its long-term management team.  The management team was supported by investments from a Cardinal principal as well as Kissel Capital.  Cardinal acquired Contour in 2011.

Based in the Kingsport, TN area, Contour Glass fabricates glass parts for the appliance, building products, and lighting industries, focusing on high volume production runs on its multiple tempering furnaces.  The management team has been in place for the duration of Cardinal’s investment period.

It has been a pleasure working with the partners of Cardinal as we navigated through many successes as well as a few challenges during our partnership.  I, along with my two top leaders in the business, are delighted that Cardinal was willing to facilitate a transaction to our group.  Today, the business is positioned for future success, and we attribute the support of Cardinal in providing that leadership.

Our Business Model

The Contour business model is based upon never believing that we have perfected our process.  We are constantly searching for ways to reduce costs, improve productivity, quality and responsiveness, and incorporate new technologies to give us the edge that makes us a partner with our customers.

This also means that each member of our Contour team is unique and valuable to our on-going challenge to exceed your expectations. We combine smart people doing important work and who constantly look for ways to improve our processes and create more value for you.

Our business model is built upon taking your product vision and transforming it into a consistent high quality repetitive component part. This process begins with a concept which evolves into product specifications. We work with you to work-out the bugs and to include developmental efficiencies from our transformation processes.  We begin with prototypes, tooling and material evaluations that end with the product you need.  Our processes meet all product standards and certifications.
